IRCC approved 14,816 spousal sponsorship applications in the last quarter of 2020

The spousal immigration program has been expedited since last year. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed the processing of spousal sponsorship in 2020. The federal immigration minister announced they will speed up the spousal immigration processing and planned to process 6,000 applications each month between October to December last year. Of those 18,000 applications, 16,000 were processed. 14,816 (92.6%) of them were approved, 837 (5.2%) refused and 346 (2.1%) withdrawn. In 2021, according to Immigration Levels Plan, the government will process nearly 70,000 spousal sponsorship applications.
