Spouse / Common-Law Sponsorship

Canada's Family Class Sponsorship allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse or common-law partner for permanent residency. Eligibility Requirements

• Sponsor must be Canadian citizen or permanent resident aged 18+
• Genuine relationship (marriage or 12+ months cohabitation for common-law)
• Sponsor must not be in prison, bankrupt, or have certain criminal convictions
• Sponsor must meet minimum income requirements (generally not required for spouses)
• Both parties must be admissible to Canada

Required Documents

• Proof of sponsorship eligibility (citizenship/PR documents)
• Proof of relationship: photos, communication records, joint accounts, letters
• Marriage certificate or proof of cohabitation
• Passport and ID for both parties
• Police certificates for the applicant
• Medical exam results
• IMM 5289 and IMM 0008 forms
