IRCC issued 211,785 Study Permits in 2020

In the three quarters of the year, Canada issued 211,785 Study Permits for international students. Most new study permit holders study in Ontario – 100,870 permits; British Columbia was the second most popular education destination – 48,985 permits; 33,605 foreign students were allowed to study in Quebec; 10,420 international students started their programs in Alberta; another 6,685 study permit holders came to study in Manitoba; Nova Scotia attracted 4,130 international students; 2,745 had chosen Saskatchewan; New Brunswick admitted 1,775 foreign students; Newfoundland and Labrador got 1,100 students; 950 international students went to Prince Edward Island; Yukon admitted 90 students, and Northwest Territories welcomed 20 new study permit holders. An additional 925 study permit holders did not specify their province of study. Due to the COVIF-19 outbreak and travel restrictions imposed to combat the pandemic, the number of 2020 study permit issuance is much less compared to 402,335 study permits issued in 2019.
